Not only is the Paradiski the 4th largest ski area in the world, it is also host to some fantastic events over the season. Our organisers are great at maintaining our resort but they are also seriously good at holding events! Throughout the winter season La Plagne hosts a number of events, from the Ice Climbing World Cup to Sublicimes in April. Here we will try to cover all the events to enjoy over your holiday here with us in the beautiful mountains.

Le Grande Odysee – 18th January

If you’re lucky enough to be joining us this week you’re in for a treat. A dog lovers heaven awaits you as the Grande Odysee arrives into Montalbert. For the 16th year the cross country sled dog race has competed across the Alps and is once again making a stop in La Plagne. Starting at 1.45pm in Montalbert village the race will kick off, heading towards the bobsleigh track and round toward the Plan Bois in Les Coches for a check point, finishing back in Montalbert from around 3.45pm with the award ceremony for that day. A chance to hug some really fluffy dogs and see some great racing, an event not to be missed.

Zen Week – 21st-25th January – Montalbert

A chance to relax and unwind in the beautiful setting of Montalbert. Throughout the week you will have a chance to dip into the Jacuzzi, have a go at Tai Chi, join in with a dance class or enjoy some reflexology. All the activities are free and all accessible via blue runs.

Ice Climbing World Cup – 9th-10th February – Champagny en Vanoise

For anyone who is interested in ice climbing this is not to be missed! A purpose built ice climbing tower fit for the world cup, (situated down in Champagny just a short walk away from the main town) is where we will find our competitors. It’s once again all free to watch and would be a fun and thrilling thing to see on your holiday. Champagny is easily reached via blue runs to the Champagny Gondola or for the more experienced skier down the windy red runs into the village itself.

Torchlight Descents – Montchavin

A spectacle to watch! The ESF instructors put on a display and free hot drinks to enjoy on various evenings over February and March down on the snow front in Montchavin. They lead groups down the piste with lit torches which creates a beautiful display. If your child has completed their second star in skiing then they can also take part too!

You can enjoy a moment of peace on the arpette summit with a dip in the Jacuzzis, saunas or massage at 1937m. Or an adrenalin fuelled trip to the top of the Roche de Mio for a bungee jump or a go at pond skimming! Tame that 5 o’clock shadow with a traditional barber shave or have your nails painted at the summit of the Grande Rochette! image1It’s been a couple of weeks now since the start of the Ice and Fire season for 2018/19 and we’re off to a snowy start. With a large amount of snow falling In mid December covering the pistes and preparing them for lift openings and our first guests arriving, to the New Year with snow falling now for two days, refreshing the pistes for some well needed powder days. If it’s a snow sure resort you’re after then La Plagne is waiting for you!

There have been some well needed changes over here this year. Our chairlifts are now mostly fitted with magic carpets and with over 70 percent of them being upgraded to high speed. Which has not only sped up queue times, they have made them much more comfortable to ride. The chairlift Inversens has finally been replaced; cold bottoms and long waits are a thing of the past!image2

If you visited us in La Plagne last year, you’ll remember the big hole in the ground in the centre which has now been ‘filled in’ thankfully with some cool things! Like a brand new tourist office with upgraded live bus positions, toilets and a warm waiting area for our shiny new bus station.

It has also given a home to lovely little bar called Floe situated above the bus station. You can enjoy a great hot chocolate or beer inside one of their heated igloos, warming those toes after a long days skiing or just to watch the snow fall around you. After you’ve warmed up you could have a go on our new ice rink (conveniently next to Floe) which is open every day! They have also built a new bowling complex next to the ice rink which offers Bowling, Billiards, table football, arcade games and of course a bar.

Children Christmas

Christmas was full of festive fun with all of our chalets booked for families staying with us for a relaxing and enjoyable week. Our trees were decorated, mice pies made, turkeys stuffed and to top it all off we enjoyed a bluebird day on Christmas, what more could you wish for? Father Christmas even took time out of his busy schedule to visit us here in the mountains towed by his sled dogs!

New Year came with a bang, fireworks and celebrations surrounding every village in the area. A big party on the piste kicked off 2019 in Plagne Bellecotte and also down in Montchavin. Partying into the early hours with DJ’s and Vin Chaud to keep us warm! Every bar was celebrating with live music, drinks promotions and fancy dress, really giving us a feel for what La Plagne has to offer to 2019.

When you think of our whopping 9.22m of snow last year it’s hard to wonder how much snow we will have this year but it’s shaping up to be a great season!

See you on the Slopes!
