Travel

One of the biggest advantages of choosing a more bespoke holiday with Ice and Fire is the ability to choose your own method of travel. This gives you much more flexibility in where you travel from and how you travel.

We have put together some information in the tabs below to give you a helping hand with your planning. When booking your travel please keep in mind that our chalets run Sunday to Sunday; that our check-in time is 4pm and that our check-out time is 10am.

  • Self Drive

  • Train Travel

  • Air Travel

  • Private Transfers

  • Shared Transfers

Getting to La Plagne by car is a relatively easy drive and as we have our arrivals on a Sunday the roads are almost empty for most of the season.

From Calais it takes about 10 hours including a few rest stops on the way. It is toll road nearly all the way to the valley and so easy to navigate.

One of the advantages of driving is that if you want to travel on Saturday and stay overnight somewhere close by you can arrive early on the Sunday morning and go straight out for a ski. We are happy to welcome you early and have facilities to store your luggage until the rooms are ready.

If you are looking for somewhere to stay for an overnight stop on the way, then please don't hesitate to get in contact and we will be able to suggest some suitable options.

Please remember that when driving in France there are slightly different laws from the UK, you will need headlamp deflectors, high visibility vests in case you break down and also a warning triangle.

You will also need to have chains in the car, this is obligatory on the mountain roads and there are points on the roads coming up the mountain called "aire de chainage" which are areas specifically for putting on and taking off snow chains. It is always best to put the snow chains on before attempting a steep mountain road if it is snowing. In France you can buy snow chains at nearly all of the petrol stations but please be aware that on Sundays only the motorway stations will be open, although you can fill up using automated pumps with a card.

Travelling by train is a great, environmentally friendly way to start your ski holiday.

With no strict weight allowances, no long check in times, comfortable buffet cars and seats, train travel is also a surprisingly stress-free alternative.Train travel la plagne Eurostar trains run from St Pancreas or Ashford to Paris, where you change to a TGV to travel to Aime, our closest town. This is just a 20-30-minute drive from our chalets and we can often pick you up from here free of charge when you arrive – please contact us to check availability.

You can book the London – Paris leg of the journey online at www.eurostar.com and the Paris to Aime leg of the journey online at www.voyages-sncf.com. There are two main options which work well – either book an overnight train on Saturday, getting to La Plagne in time for breakfast or book a Sunday morning Eurostar, and then a Sunday afternoon TGV to get you into La Plagne in time for dinner.

In Paris you will need to change between the Gare Du Nord and the Gare De Lyon stations which you can easily do by metro or taxi

You can find out a lot more information from https://www.snowcarbon.co.uk/ which is a website aimed specifically at train travel to ski resorts.

Shared transfers are the ideal airport transfer solution for solo travellers and small groups.

It is a good idea to check shared transfer availability before booking your flight if possible. When you book your transfer you will need to provide your flight times, flight numbers, and how many people are travelling. A few days before you travel you will then receive exact information about where and when to meet your driver at the airport.

Below are some suggestions of companies offering shared transfers. Many of the shared transfer options run to Aime or Bourg St Maurice and we can usually pick you up from there free of charge - please contact us to check availability.
